Employee engagement, the pandemic & wars, burnout, big-tech layoffs, and the Great Resignation, (or regret-meh…)

In this series of articles on the alphabet soup of corporate citizenship, I’ve pondered the changes in how companies acquire a loyal customer and employee base, in how business is leveraging it’s historied mindset of solving problems to make positive impact; laid out some history & definitions of some concepts; shared a few examples of small and large companies leading the way; and delved into how individuals, companies and governments are influencing others and taking action.

In this article, I want to address some of the current movements in the US and European labor markets, and terms you might have heard — “the Great Resignation” of the pandemic, and more recently, “quiet quitting”, “quiet cracking”, and less noticeable “the great regret”

There is so much that is going on these days, as the Russia-Ukraine war continues further heightening tensions on democracy and energy issues; COVID19 pandemic severity has subsided to endemic state, and other health issues have risen to demand our focus (ebola, bird flu, economic volatility, authoritarianism); a large, over-risk-exposed bank failed in 2024 (someone else can write about better ways to financially support start-ups); and the economy bucks, splutters and works to find a balance after the hits.
