Insights To Help You Take The Necessary Risks, Find the Patience, and Actually Change Habits, Processes, or Corporate Culture

Hello Readers ,

Happy lunar new year.šŸ‰ Thank goodness for the many symbolic opportunities to make our desired improvements!

And if you are in the USA, happy Black History Month (February)! Women’s History Month (March) is coming up. These are great opportunities for focused learning and broadening our perspectives. Thank G-d for those including diverse insights. Although it can be challenging to change & ponder other perspectives, the decisions and progress are much more informed and resilient. Yes, I’ve written a few articles on that. I shared an article on how best to communicate corporate citizenship efforts in the last newsletter. And, I will share a statistics filled article in the near future illustrating how it makes cultural, geopolitical, and financial sense. In the meantime, here’s the friends’ link to an article on some of China’s approach to what I call ā€œthe alphabet soup of corporate citizenship); and case studies of two companies in China.

In January, I asked you what your dreams are/were for 2024? Today, I ask you if you trust yourself and your vision enough… to go through the discomfort, and take the risks necessary, to make the changes you want. We can’t really control others, but can inspire or guide, by modeling healthier habits and creating practices in our companies or teams. So, what habits would you like to shift, to make things go more smoothly in 2024 and beyond?

NB: If you watch the video on youtube.com, you can see the subtitles or captions.

Our brains are hardwired to follow the easiest, familiar path, to conserve energy — we didn’t always have food security (and many still don’t). And habits can be immensely helpful and efficient. But contexts change, so organizational or personal culture & practices need to shift as well. We have to do some research and quiet the noise. Then, choose how we’ll adapt ourselves or our business, and trust ourselves and our vision enough to move through the discomfort.

I’ve seen this need for compassion + flexibility + focus + confidence (& a pinch of humility, the birth place of invention), in my merger and reorganization facilitation work, in my business coaching, and in my own life. It’s not easy, and not always successfully sustained. For example, I’m learning to get comfortable on video — early-2023-me is amazed, and 2025-me might cringe (and I welcome your suggestions for improvement — šŸ™šŸ¼kindly, please). šŸ’”New habits are not a light switch, but a process and practice… creating and supporting progress.
